That pretty much makes it Windows 7, they should definitely make the Metro UI optional for desktops. tablets I can see a use for it, but then I prefer Android because I can choose how the home screen is layed out. Still wouldn’t be feeling the Metro UI on a phone or a tablet…

It worked from the beggining. Thanks for sharing this. Like one of the guys say: who cares about the god damn metro “face”; that was made for tablets. I do not have a tablet..yet but I do not see the purpose on a desktop for that. Thanks again !

on a 64bit VirtualBox it only seemed to be metro, but it was late, was I missing something?

Setting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RPEnabled = 0 doesn’t work. It basically turns off Windows 8.

Second that. Don’t rename, do the regedit thing. For instance, after renaming this file, the WiFi network list became unavailable, just wouldn’t appear. Also, my WiFi would’nt connect to anything anymore.
After re-renaming the file back to it’s original name, and doing the register tweak, WiFi is back in action.
May be machine-specific, but proves that on a lower level, the dll file does more than just enable and disable Metro, so use caution. And the register tweak ONLY disables Metro, so I recommend that. Just my two cents though, and YMMV.

Please don’t do it by renaming the file……

Its quite bad karmar and should fill the event viewer with a few errors and break anything that wants to link against it….. Its just bad.

Simply tell windows not to use it:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
set the key RPEnabled to 0
